23rd
Annual Conference
February 28- March 1st, 2008
Route
66 Hotel & Conference Center
Springfield IL
General Overview
This year’s annual conference will bring ILMA to the Route 66 Hotel
and
Conference Center in Springfield, Illinois. The conference kicks off
on
Thursday morning with an opening session featuring Marcia Willhite, Bureau
Chief, Bureau of Water, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, as
well as
Joan Brehm from Illinois State University, who will take a fascinating
look at
the sociology behind lake issues. As always, we have strived to put together
a
balanced program that focuses on the needs of individual homeowners/lake
associations as well as those of lake professionals. Topics to be covered
include lake improvement projects, lake sociology, volunteer efforts,
invasive
species, and watershed issues/planning just to name a few.
Also, you
don’t
want to miss the special session and panel discussion on “What
is a Good
Lake” . The conference will wrap up with a Saturday workshop, which
will
take place at City Water Light and Power, and will cover the basics of
lake/
pond shoreline maintenance and fishery management. As always, our
exhibitors will be on hand to discuss with you the latest services and
technology in the field of lake management.
This year we also have a
very
special evening planned for Thursday night that will take us off site
for a
private event at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
You
will not what to miss this one!

Lincoln Presidential Museum Reception
For our annual dinner this year, we invite you to join us on Thursday
evening
for a special reception at the Abraham
Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (www.alplm.org/home.html). In a stunning combination of
scholarship and showmanship, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum
immerses you in Lincoln’s world and time. From a rustic Indiana
cabin to the
Executive Mansion in the nation’s capital, follow the fate of America’s
16th president and share the joys and sorrows of a family – and
nation. Upon arrival, you will have the evening to
casually take in the museum and it’s many
interactive exhibits along with two theater
presentations (Lincoln’s Eyes and Ghosts of
the Library). There will be carving stations
and hors d’oeuvres served throughout our
time at the museum.
Transportation will be provided for this event.

benefiting the ILMA Scholarship Fund. Items will be available for bidding

Lake & Pond Management Workshop
|
Birds,
butterflies, waterfowl, and fish...oh my!
Birds, butterflies, waterfowl, and fish….oh my! Have you
ever wanted to create habitat to attract birds, butterflies, and
other animals to your yard or lake? Do you have issues with waterfowl
on your pond and in your yard? Have you ever wanted to create a
better fish population? Take a journey in this workshop that takes
you from your yard to the lake and get questions answered as you
go. Even though the majority of the workshop will be inside, you
can learn what to do outside on your property and lake. This workshop
will cover a variety of topics including different types of habitat
that will attract birds, butterflies and other animals to your
lake shoreline, how waterfowl can be a nuisance and what steps
you can take to manage their impacts, and how you can successfully
manage your fish population. Additionally, if weather permits,
we will conduct an electrofishing demonstration at Lake Springfield
and discuss a variety of fish management topics. Note: This is
event is off site at City Water Light and Power Property Management
Center and transportion will not be provided. |
* See ILMA’s website for additional program
details as they become available
** Transportation will be provided
