MANY
OF ILLINOIS' 84,000 LAKES AND PONDS ARE IN TROUBLE!
Living
on or near a lake brings unique pleasures. At the same time, problems arise
creating the need for information and education. Lake home owners, concerned
citizens, lake associations and environmental professionals joined together
in 1985 to meet that need with the formation of the Illinois Lake Management
Association. Excessive weed and algae growth, turbid water, sedimentation
and bacterial or toxic contamination present a real threat to the ecological
health and beauty of the inland lakes we treasure.
ILMA...A
VALUABLE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE
ILMA continues
to prove its value as a much needed resource for education and professional
advice to assist in making important lake management decisions. Our quarterly
newsletter, LAKE WAVES, provides a year-round information exchange and communication
link. Legislative updates, meeting announcements, research news, and case
studies are mailed directly to you or your organization. As an association
of people with a common interest in preserving and enhancing our lakes and
ponds ILMA members share the rewards and camaraderie of a volunteer association
with a vital mission.
ILMA
HELPS BY SPONSORSHIP OF WORKSHOPS AND ANNUAL CONFERENCES
Communication
is encouraged at ILMA's annual conferences. Informative sessions with panels
of lake managers and specialists give members an opportunity to learn about
the latest lake management techniques.
